Easy Like Sunday Selfie - Kossack :)

This is our handsome buddy Kossack. He's a true gentle giant, and as you can see, he also happens to take a pretty good selfie.

Taking selfies (and getting scritches and pets, and warming my lap for a bit) is apparently very tiring. Just a few minutes later, Kossack also demonstrated some serious "Easy Like Sunday" skills...

We're participating in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our most wonderful pals at The Cat on My Head. They're featuring a very special kitty today, so be sure to take a look, and to visit all of the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop participants here!

Happy Sunday, everybuddy! :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Lucy :)

Meet our adorable and adoptable friend, Lucy. Adjusting to life at the shelter hasn't been easy for this pretty housepanther. It was evident right away that she was overwhelmed by the unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells that came with the experience. Nervous and scared, she would hiss, growl, and lash out when we would clean her cage or feed her. But something in her eyes told us she was open to trusting humans again.

And then, it began happening. Lucy would calmly smell our hands through her cage bars, and play with toys through them, too. And within the last two weeks, she has begun letting us volunteers pet her, and is hanging out with us when we visit! It also turns out that she is a catnip connoisseur. In a quiet and patient home, we are supremely confident that Lucy will blossom, and that her transformation into some lucky human's loving best friend will be complete. :)

Lucy is about 8 years old, spayed, micro-chipped, and current on her vaccinations. She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Now all she needs is someone to give her the chance she wants and deserves.

Easy Like Selfie Sunday :)

We love taking part in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our pals at The Cat On My Head. This week's SELFIE participant is our shy but sweet (and adoptable) friend, Emily. Isn't she gorgeous?
Emily is about 5 1/2 years old. She's spayed, micro-chipped, current on her vaccinations, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Emily gets along with most other cats, and would do best in a quieter home.

No Sunday would be complete without a good, old-fashioned EASY. This excellent demonstration of relaxamicating is brought to you by our beautiful (and adoptable) buddy, Bella. Here she is, enjoying a head cradle and some scritches from (her favorite volunteer) Tracey. :)
You can read more about Bella here.

Happy Sunday, everybuddy! :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

“Piglet noticed that even though he had a very small heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.” A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh

We have so much for which to be grateful. We give thanks for those who adopt shelter animals and/or take in homeless pets ... you recognize just how special these wonderful creatures are, and you've opened up your hearts to them. Thank you also to those who help shelter animals, donate time and resources, advocate for animals, serve as fosters, care for feral cats, or participate in trap-neuter-return programs. You are heroes, one and all.

We're also thankful for our families and many friends (including, of course, the ones we've made through blogging). Thank you for sharing your lives with us, and for sharing in ours.

Wishing all who celebrate the happiest of Thanksgivings.

Hugs and headbonks,

Moosey, Gracie, Zoe, Tracey and Kevin

Super Handsome Sunday Selfies

It's Sunday, and you know what that means. It's time for the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop*. Trying their paw at some selfie fun today are super sweet, handsome and adoptable mancats, Rocky and Spotty.
Rocky
Rocky is about 2 years old, playful and gentle. He gets along with other cats, especially ones who are not dominant. And just look at that adorable face. :) He's neutered, micro-chipped, and current on his vaccinations. He is negative for FIV and FeLV.

Spotty
Spotty is about 5 years old, and is the king of all lap cats. With winter on the way, who wouldn't want a sweet and loving lap warmer? Like Rocky, Spotty gets along well with other kitties. He is neutered, micro-chipped, and current on his vaccinations. He, too, has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

Have a great Sunday, everybuddy!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Brothers

These two handsome six month-old brothers are named "Whatchamacallit" and "Do-Hickey."

Do-Hickey. Just look at that regal pose!

We're not sure how these guys got their names, but we know for sure that they're both playful, sweet and lovable.

Whatchamacallit. Check out the cool stripes on his legs!

Since they're from the same litter, they're bonded. It sure would be nice if they could be adopted together. Do-Hickey and Whatchamacallit are both neutered, micro-chipped, current on their vaccinations, and negative for FIV and FeLV. Now all they need is a forever home. Is it yours?

Easy Like Selfie Sunday

Today is Sunday, so we're taking it easy AND taking part in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our dear friends, the Kitties Blue, at The Cat On My Head. Getting things started is our adorable pal, Morita, who's settled in for a Sunday easy in her beloved ESS. Looking good, Morita! :)

And here's devastatingly handsome mancat Cappy, showing off his excellent selfie skills. He did a great job, don't you think?

Morita and Cappy are both waiting at PAWS for their forever homes.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Gravy

Good Gravy! Our beautiful, adoptable friend Gravy is one of the sweetest kitties ever. Sadly, this little ladycat found herself at the shelter when her human could no longer afford to keep her.

We're pretty sure Gravy got lots of love in her former home, because she is a super-snuggly, well-socialized purr-monster.

And just look at that face. Isn't she adorable?

Gravy is about 6 years old, spayed, micro-chipped and current on her vaccinations. She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She loves people, and now all she needs is a forever home. Come meet her at PAWS!

Easy Like Selfie Sunday :)

It's Sunday! And as it usually does, that means we're participating in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our awesome pals at The Cat on My Head. Leading things off is a super suave selfie by one of our favorite adoptable mancats, Gabe. Don't you just love this big guy's smile?

Speaking of love ... what's not to love about the relaximacating prowess of another of our adoptable friends, Sir Nigel Purrsworth? Sweet dreams, Nigel.

Here's hoping YOUR Sunday is filled with smiles and relaxation, too.

Dona Nobis Pacem #blog4peace

Today, we're participating in the annual "BlogBlast for Peace." Started by Mimi Lenox in 2006, this movement has grown to include thousands of bloggers in hundreds of countries - and countless other folks on various forms of social media - all taking the day to spread messages of love, hope and peace. Beautiful, isn't it?

This year, our peace globe features some of our amazing, adoptable cat friends from PAWS. Our wish for them is the one we have for all beings, everywhere: lives and homes that are abundantly full of peace and love.

Wishing, hoping, purring and praying,

Kevin, Tracey, Moosey, Gracie and Zoe

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Sophie

Isn't she lovely? This is our sweet, playful and outgoing new friend, Sophie.

Sophie is super friendly with people, gets along with some other kitties, and would be a wonderful addition to almost any home. And we're pretty sure that look on her face means, "please come sit down next to me, so I can give you some snuggles." Because that's exactly what happened right after these photos were taken. :)

Sophie is about 8 years old, spayed, micro-chipped, and current on her vaccinations.  She is negative for FIV and FeLV. She also has a nice smile. See?

Come meet Sophie today, and fall in love.

Easy Like Selfie Sunday :)

Our strikingly beautiful friend, Cookie, is aptly named. She's as sweet as they come! She also takes a great SELFIE, don't you think? :)

Cookie is about 4 years old, spayed, micro-chipped, and current on her vaccinations. She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She loves people, gets along with other kitties, and she's waiting to meet you!

As for the EASY part of today's post, that's being handled by our handsome, lovable and gentle friends, Ryker and Patch. As you can see, they've both perfected the "hangover" relaxation technique. :)
Ryker (at left) and Patch are very good boys!
You can see more pictures of our buddy Patch here, and our pal Ryker here.

FURever Home Friday! :)

Hip hip hooray! It's Friday! And what better way to celebrate than by making this a FURever Home Friday, our periodic update about the lucky PAWS cats who've found their forever homes? There's lots of happiness to share, so let's get this celebration started!

Longtime PAWS residents Jazmin, Izzy and Marlee have finally found their happily ever afters. Jazmin and Izzy had been waiting for about 4 years!

Mariah, Lincoln (the cat who lays like a frog), and Creamsicle were all adopted, too! We are especially happy for our pal Creamsicle, who originally came to PAWS after he was found wandering around in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy (in November of 2012).

Here's the full list of kitties, in alphabetical order, who have graduated since our last adoption update:

Archie and Mindy (together); Asia and Luna (together); Bean Bag, Bean Pole, and Bean Sprout (together); Bisou; Burglar and Domino (together); Bell; Cali; Cannoli; Cassiopeia; Churro; Cinder; Cookie and Cream (together); Creamsicle; Delphine LaLaurie; DJ; Dulcinea; Don Fernando; Flan; Izzy; Jazmin; Lincoln; Louis Leakey; Mariah; Marie Laveau; Marlee; Misu; Olga; Orion; Papa and Baron S. (together); Pixie; PJ; Sbarro; Strega; Thing-a-ma-jig; Toledo and Holly (together); Willy; Zahara

And what FURever Home Friday would be complete without some Happy Tails (er, TALES)?

"BeeBee is doing great! She loves her new home and we love her. It's a big difference since December- she has completely adapted and is a very active cat. She's a beautiful playful and fun cat-not shy at all. She uses the litter box well and is eating great. She has a vet she goes to regularly and according to her veterinarian, she seems to be in great health."

"Today marks 3 months of being blessed with Oreo added to our family. there's plenty of love and fun in our home with the two buddies, Oreo & Diego. Thanks again, PAWS, for all your service."

Happy Weekend, everybuddy!

(Almost) Wordless - Our Pal Swizzle

Do you remember our beautiful, sweet and super gentle friend, Swizzle? She's still waiting patiently at PAWS for her forever home.

She's also still getting lots of love and attention from all of her human pals. This picture - taken this past Sunday - shows Swizzle enjoying some lap time with yours truly. :)

We love you, Swizzle!

Swizzle is spayed, micro-chipped and current on her vaccinations. She's about 8 1/2 years old, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She tolerates other cats, but does not do well with dogs. Swizzle would do best in a quieter home, with a human who is around most of the time. Won't you please give her the chance she so wants and deserves?

Easy Like Sunday Selfie - Zoe! :)

This week's selfie duties are being handled by our super-sweet, gentle and adoptable friend, Zoe. We LOVE this kitty. Isn't she adorable? :)

When Zoe was done taking her selfie, she settled in for a nice sun-shiny easy...

Zzzzzzzzz...

Zoe is about 7 years old, spayed, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on her vaccinations. She is negative for FIV and FeLV. And she will love you forever, if you'll just give her the chance she needs and deserves. Come meet Zoe, and fall in love!

We're taking part in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our beloved pals at The Cat On My Head. Click here to see who else is participating (and/or to join in the fun)!

National Feral Cat Day 2015

Did you know that feral cats (also called community or outdoor cats) are the same species as pet cats? Or that they live in groups called colonies and can thrive in every landscape? Or that they can be as healthy as pet cats, even though they are (in most cases) unadoptable because they are not socialized to humans? Or that there is a special day to raise awareness about them?

Today is National Feral Cat Day! Now in its 15th year, National Feral Cat Day was launched in 2001 by Alley Cat Allies, the national advocate for feral and stray cats and a recognized authority on Trap-Neuter-Return (T-N-R) — the program wherein cats who live outdoors are humanely trapped and brought to a veterinarian to be evaluated, spayed or neutered and vaccinated.

Friendly cats and kittens are put up for adoption. Feral cats that have been spayed, neutered and checked are released back into the areas from which they came, with volunteer caregivers providing a managed food source and monitoring the colony to aid sick or injured cats. Because they are spayed and neutered, the feral cats don't have to deal with stuff like territorial fighting, mating and pregnancy, and no new kittens are born.

A feral kitty I met in Jerusalem, Israel.
Sadly, in many municipalities, cats are still caught and taken to animal pounds and shelters where they are killed. The shelter system is the number one cause of death for cats in the United States. That’s why it’s so important for people to consider feral kitties today and every day, to help change society and create compassionate communities for cats.

Easy Like Selfie Sunday :)

It's Sunday, and around here, that almost always means a little bit of selfie, and a whole lot of easy. Let's start things off with a stunning selfie by our beautiful, quiet and reserved friend, Pumpkin.

As a female long-haired orange tabby, Pumpkin is a pretty rare kitty. She's still waiting to be adopted, and just needs a patient someone who will give her a chance. We are confident that she will blossom, and be a loving and loyal companion once she finds her forever home.

And now, let's get on with that easy stuff. This week's professional relaxation demonstration is brought to you by our silly, full-of-personality housepanther pal, Elmer. If there was an Easy Like Sunday competition, he'd be getting some serious style points with his technique. :)

We're participating in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our awesome pals at The Cat On My Head. Be sure to visit them to see all of the other participants (and/or to join in the fun)!

Happy Sunday, everybuddy!
