Friends on Friday, and a Special Event!

Gracie
Zoe: Look! It's from our friends at The Cat On My Head.
Moosey: It's like a treasure chest.
Check out all of this stuff!
A little while ago, our dear friends at The Cat On My Head (aka The Kitties Blue) had a drawing/giveaway for the awesome swag they got at this year's BlogPaws Conference. And guess what? The random number selector picked US! How cool is that?

There was SO much stuff in the box ... a cat nip grinder, yummy treats, fun toys, a laser pointer, an official The Cat On My Head pen, and more! So much more, in fact, that we were able to share a lot of it with the PAWS cats, including pretty and adoptable Swizzle (who the Kitties Blue sponsor every month, and who is an honorary Blue Kitty)...
Swizzle: Thank you for my new pink toys, Kitties Blue and Mom Janet!
Big thanks, hugs and headbonks to you, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, and Mom Janet, for being such great friends, and for sharing your loot with us and the cats at PAWS. :)

Speaking of PAWS, there's a special event this Saturday (August 15th) called "Clear the Shelters." PAWS is one of hundreds of shelters across the nation waiving adoption fees on adult cats and dogs for the day! We sure hope it's a huge success, and that many animals find their happily ever afters. You can read more about the event here.

Tuxie Tuesday (Opt to Adopt Morita)!

This is our beautiful, adoptable pal Morita. We're not sure exactly who named her, but we find it sort of humorous that "Cat Morita" rhymes with "Pat Morita," the name of the actor who played Mr. Miyagi in the original "Karate Kid" movie franchise.

Morita the cat may not be a karate master, but she's a black belt when it comes to snuggling, playing and being pet. This 2.5 year old sweetheart gets along with some other cats, and even some dogs; she would also be okay in a home with older children. Morita is spayed, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on her vaccinations. She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Come meet her today! :)

FURever Home Friday! :)

Hooray! It's time for the latest edition of FURever Home Friday, our periodic post about the lucky PAWS kitties who've found their forever homes. There's no sense delaying the deluge of happiness ... let's get this party started! :)

Do you remember our talkative and snuggly senior pal, Sophia? She was one of the shelter's longest (and most beloved) residents. She had been waiting patiently to be discovered by some lucky humans for almost 4 years. Well...

...Sophia's now in a permanent foster home, which is as close as a kitty can get to being adopted without actually being adopted. She'll live permanently in a real home, with her loving foster parents, and only come back to PAWS for checkups. We already miss her immensely, but are over the moon to hear she's already made herself right at home (and that she is a big fan of bird shows on her parents' iPad). :)

Look who else found their happily ever afters!

Here's the full list of the most recent PAWS graduates:

Archie, Asia, Bengali, Buttercup and Blossom (together), C-Lo, Eenie and Miney (together), Diamond, DJ, Erica, Frodo and Graycie (together), Little Caesar, Martina, Mindy, Olga, Oliver, Poblano and Cayenne (together), Salt and Pepa (together), Sophia (* - to permanent foster), and T-Bone

==========

Of course, no FURever Home Friday would be complete without some Happy Tails (um, Tales), so here are some awesome follow-up reports from some PAWS cat alumni and their families...

"These are my fur babies, Frankie and Johnny, they were adopted from PAWS, and will be 9 years old in November. They are Domestic Short Hair [although they shed like long hair kitties:)] Their favorite thing to do is talk to the birds and squirrels outside our windows (and snuggling with their Mommy)."

"Thank you PAWS for letting Itty into our family. He's such a great boy and fits right in. We were lucky he picked us."

Happy Weekend, everybody! :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Kittens!

Those of you who are familiar with our blog know that we almost always feature grown up kitties. But seeing as how PAWS (like shelters all over) is currently in the middle of "kitten season," we thought we'd show you some of the babies we met this past weekend. :)
What's cuter than a kitten pile? (from left: PJ, Domino and Sbarro)

Easy Like Selfie Sunday - Patch

Our friend Patch is handsome, sweet-natured and ready to find his forever home. He also takes a pretty awesome selfie, don't you think?

Zzzzzzzzzz....
Have a super snoozy, easy Sunday, everybuddy.

We're taking part in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, sponsored by our pals at The Cat on My Head. Be sure to visit them to see who else has joined the fun! :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Chappy and Skipper

Brothers Chappy and Skipper are handsome gentle giants (who are on special diets at the shelter, to help them be "a little less giant," if you catch our drift). Their sweet personalities and easygoing natures have already made them favorites among the staff and volunteers at PAWS.
Chappy
Skipper
Chappy and Skipper must be adopted together. They are about 8 years old, neutered, microchipped, and current on their vaccinations. They are negative for FIV and FeLV.  If you're looking to fill your home with love, Chappy and Skipper are the purr-fect mancats for you ... they have it to give in abundance. Come meet them today!

Easy Like Selfie Sunday - Cookie and Olga

It's Sunday, and around here, that means it's time for two of our favorite fun ways to showcase the PAWS cats. First up is our entry for the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our dear pals at The Cat On My Head. This week's selfie was taken by our adoptable new, sweet-as-pie friend, Cookie. Isn't she beautiful?

Of course, Sundays are also purrfect for taking it easy. And as you can see, gentle, adorable and adoptable Olga has claimed herself an excellent easy spot on the Room 7 ESS. :)

Happy Sunday, everybuddy!

A Lap Cat Emerges, and a Special Day :)

This is our beautiful and much-loved friend, Sioux. She's always been a sweet kitty, but had always been a little leery of the humans at the shelter.

Well, there's not much that makes us happier than when a timid cat "turns a corner," and begins to learn that she is safe and loved.  It's pretty obvious that Sioux has started turning that corner.  Check her out last weekend, when she decided that Tracey's lap looked very inviting:

And here she is, getting mighty comfortable in one of the wall-mounted cat cups (sorry the picture is so fuzzy; she started moving as I took the picture with my cell phone camera):

Sioux is about 3.5 years old, spayed, micro-chipped and current on her vaccinations. She is negative for FIV and FeLV. And as you can see, she's ready to give and receive love from whoever is lucky enough to adopt her. Won't you consider being her forever best friend?
=======
As for that special day we referenced in the title ... today, July 21st, is our Angel Sammy's Gotcha Day at the Rainbow Bridge.

Happy Gotcha Day, Dootie!

We love and miss you every day, and bet they're having a big ol' party there to celebrate the special day that you came to live with us, filling our house with love and laughter. :)

Love from Mom Tracey, Dad Kevin (meowmeowmans), Moosey, Gracie and Zoe

Easy Like Selfie Sunday :)

Happy Sunday, everybuddy! As we often do, we're taking part today in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our awesome pals at The Cat on My Head blog. Today, the selfie honors here go to 3 year-old adoptable PAWS kitty Morticia. Besides taking a pretty good selfie (and having really cool markings), she likes lounging, and playing when the mood strikes.

As for the Easy Sunday part of today's post, check out handsome, friendly and adoptable brothers Sparky and Shadow, catching some rays in their room's window hammock. We're always amazed at how much weight those things can hold ... the brothers are not exactly small cats. :)

Floofy Friend Friday - Mossy

Our adoptable friend Mossy is sweet, soft and beautiful. And get a load of those big bright eyes, and that round little face. Isn't she adorable?

Sadly, Mossy and her housemate, Camo, ended up at PAWS after their human passed away. They adjusted surprisingly well to being at the shelter, and we were all interested to see that the two kitties weren't actually very attached to each other. In a way, this was a real blessing, since it meant that they did not HAVE to be adopted as a pair. Camo recently found her new forever home, and now it's Miss Mossy's turn to find her own happily ever after.

Mossy loves her human friends, enjoys being brushed and pet, and tolerates most other cats. She is about 5 years old, spayed, micro-chipped, and current on her vaccinations. She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Come meet this floofy girl today, and fall in love forever! :)

Opt to Adopt Charlotte!

Beautiful Charlotte and her 5 kittens were found as strays on the streets of Norwalk, Connecticut.

The nice lady who found them already had cats of her own (and a new human baby, too), so she was unable to take in the little feline family. She DID begin feeding them, though, and even rigged her basement so that the Charlotte and her babies could come in for shelter from the elements.

Charlotte soon showed herself to be friendly and sweet, even exposing her belly to the lady for post-dinner rubs. As much as she loved Charlotte, the lady knew that this was not a situation she could maintain. She also realized that Charlotte could get pregnant again. And that non-fixed kittens beget more kittens. So she called PAWS, whose volunteers quickly scooped up Charlotte and her babies.

All of Charlotte's kittens have been adopted, and now it's this lovely ladycat's turn to find HER happily ever after. She's still a little shy after living on the streets, BUT as she has gotten more comfortable with the volunteers, she's been showing us that sweet, belly-rub-seeking side more and more. She loves being brushed and pet, and will do wonderfully in a home where she is allowed the time, love and understanding she needs to blossom as we know she will.

Gentle Charlotte is about 2 years old, spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on her vaccinations. She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Won't you open your heart and home to let Charlotte know there is a better life than the one she once knew?

FURever Home Friday!

Fridays are always a favorite around here, but some of them are even better than others. And today is one of those "better than the rest" Fridays. That's right ... it's time for the latest edition of FURever Home Friday, our periodic post about the PAWS cats who've found their happily ever afters.  So without further ado ... let's start the show!

Everybody's buddy, Oreo, finally found his forever loving family after two years. In a recent post, we noted that we "were at a serious loss to explain why this awesome guy (was) still waiting to be adopted." Apparently, he was just waiting for the right family to come along (see "Happy Tails," below). :)

Do you remember Itty, the sweet kitty with the heart on his chest? He got adopted, too!

And so did handsome brothers, Chip and Dale! :)

The shelter has had a pretty good run of adoptions lately.  Here's the list (in alphabetical order) of all the kitties who've been adopted since our most recent FURever Friday update:

Camo, Captain America, Charlie and Darla (together), Cheetara, Chilaca, Chip and Dale (together), Diana, Gisla, Halle, Hawkeye, Itty, Jalapeno, Jerome, Kange, Lotus and Habanero (together), Luna and Angelina (together), Maddox, Moe, Natasha, Nitro and Bugati (together), Oreo, Panthro, Phillip, Ragnar, Rolo and Lagertha (together), Serrano, Shiloh, Smokey, Turbo, Tygra, Whitney and Beyonce (together), and Zahara

Congratulations and love to all the graduates and their new families!

===========
Some Happy Tails (Tales) :)

"Charlie and Darla are both doing great. It didn't take them long to warm up to us or the house and only a few days to become best friends with each other."

"Oreo has been a wonderful addition to our family. He is sweet, fun, and loving. Oreo was patient and kind when showing our 12 year old tabby, Diego, he is here for friendship... and it worked! Oreo is one cool cat. Thank you PAWS for all your care and love for Oreo and for bringing us together."

"Matzoh is doing great! She is a perfect fit and Dexter is so happy to have a little sister."

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Tabby Tuesday - Opt to Adopt Prince!

Handsome Prince is an all-around nice guy!
At about 10.5 years old, Prince is well past all that kitten craziness (read: you won't have to worry about him climbing the curtains or squeezing under the fridge), but he still has plenty of living to do and lots of love to give.
He enjoys being pet and brushed, relaxing with his human friends, and playing (when the mood strikes). He also gets along with other cats -- especially mellow ones who subscribe to the belief that every kitty needs some purr-sonal space now and then. :)
Prince is neutered, micro-chipped, and current on his vaccinations. He *does* eat a special diet to help maintain his urinary tract health, but is otherwise fine. He has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Won't you give this awesome dude the happily ever after he so deserves? Come meet Prince at PAWS today! :)
