They're both sweet, gentle, and in search of their own happily ever afters.

Angel Sammy's Feral Cat Day Message :)

Hi everybuddy, it's me, Angel Sammy, sharing a really important message from the Rainbow Bridge! Guess what today is? It's National Feral Cat Day, the day started in 2001 by Alley Cat Allies - the amazing group dedicated to helping feral and stray cats across the nation.

I actually know LOTS about feral cats (you know, those kitties who aren't socialized to humans that you probably see around your neighborhood), because I used to live in a feral cat colony before I ended up at PAWS (where Mom and Dad adopted me from). Here are a few facts you might not know:

1. Feral cats have lived alongside humans for more than 10,000 years! They are the same species as pet cats, but are not socialized to people, so they are not adoptable. Ferals live in groups called colonies and can thrive in all kinds of settings.

2. Trap-Neuter-Return - a humane approach to managing and caring for feral cats - is the only effective method of stabilizing feral cat colonies. With TNR, cats who live outdoors are humanely trapped and checked out medically, spayed or neutered and given their shots, and then re-released.  Some of these cats are found to be friendly (like lucky me!), and are put up for adoption. :)

3. In the last decade, the number of local governments with official policies endorsing TNR for feral cats has increased tenfold, with hundreds of cities and towns successfully carrying out TNR.

If you'd like to learn more about National Feral Cat Day, Alley Cat Allies, and/or how you can help feral cats, please click HERE.

I hope you liked my message. Big hugs and headbonks to you all!

Your pal,

Angel Sammy

Some happy tails (er, tales) from some of our alumni and their families:

Patches’ new name is Calliope and she is doing well, I think. She seems comfortable in her new home and has a voracious appetite and very definite preferences. She will only eat Weruva and Halo Spots Stew brand cat foods. She is still somewhat skittish yet slowly but surely she is becoming more affectionate. We still do everything on her terms. On Saturday night she slept at the end of my bed for the first time ever AND I heard her PURR for the very first time. I was surprised and very happy.

Miffy (aka Tinkerbelle) is so purrfect! She’s given us so much joy and we believe she’s happy with us too. Here’s a photo of her enjoying a catnap with me. I found her snuggled between my legs.

Brandon has adapted perfectly to his new home. He gets along great with our other cat, and is really starting to get completely comfortable in his new surroundings. My wife and I are extremely happy with our two cats that we adopted from PAWS.

Thanks for reading, and sharing in our adoption celebration.  Have a great weekend!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Max

Despite what the sign behind him says, all sweet and gentle Max really needs to be happy is a forever home with warm laps and lots of petting (and faucets from which he can drink).

Handsome Max is friendly, and likes almost everyone he meets.  He's good with other cats, and even likes dogs!  Maxie is about 12 years old, neutered, up to date on all of his vaccinations, and micro-chipped.  He has tested negative for FeLV and FIV.  Come meet Max today!

Easy Like Sunday - Julia

Here's sweet, petite and adoptable Julia, testing out two of the beds in PAWS Cat Room 5.

First up: some quality time in this comfy cozy miniature twin bed...

Next: a stint in this nicely apportioned window perch...

No matter which bed she chooses, Julia looks ready to settle in for a nice and relaxing Sunday.  Here's hoping your day is as easy as hers! :)

Julia is about 9 years old, and sweet as can be.  She is spayed, micro-chipped, and current on all of her vaccinations.  She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.  Now all she needs is a happily ever after.

Tuxie Tuesday: Opt to Adopt

This is our friend Liam. Isn't he gorgeous?  Truth be told, he reminds us a lot of our dear, sweet Angel Sammy. :)

When Liam was found as a stray, his tail was so badly dislocated that it had to be amputated.  He's all healed up now, and doing just fine sans tail.  What's most remarkable about Liam is his sweet and gentle nature ... we're all but certain that he had his own humans at one time.  He loves being pet, gets along well with other kitties, and would love a home where snuggles and couch time reign supreme.  Liam is about 8 years old, neutered, micro-chipped and current on all of his vaccines.  He has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.  Liam is waiting at PAWS, in Norwalk, CT, to meet his new best friend.  Is that you?

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Sherwood

Our pal Sherwood would LOVE to meet you.  We're pretty sure about this, because this handsome and sweet mancat loves EVERYONE he meets.

Sadly, Sherwood finds himself back at the shelter after being adopted a couple of years ago, because "...someone with allergies moved into his house."  We don't think that's fair, but the volunteers and staff at PAWS will be sure to give Sherwood lots of love and attention while he waits for his REAL forever home.

Gentle Sherwood also enjoys being pet, helping his volunteer pals read the newspaper, and playing. And he has the cutest high-pitched meow ever.

He's about 2 1/2 years old, micro-chipped, neutered and up-to-date on all of his vaccinations. He has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.  Come meet Sherwood today.  You'll be glad you did (and so will he)! :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Orphan Annie

This is our friend Orphan Annie. She's quite literally the sweetest, gentlest, snuggliest tortie cat we've ever met.

Are you looking for a true lap cat?  Do you like headbonks, enthusiastic purring, and kneading paws? Do you want someone to make you smile, and keep you warm as we head into Autumn?  If you answered "yes," to any of these, Orphan Annie is the girl for you. :)

Orphan Annie is about 13 years old, spayed, micro-chipped and up-to-date on all her vaccinations.  She's blind in her left eye, but it's not something that bothers her.  She would do best in a quieter home, with somebody who is around a lot to give and get the snuggles she adores so much.  To meet her is to fall in love ... come see for yourself!

Friends Sponsoring Friends :)

Do you remember back in July, when our dearly departed friend Sparkle sponsored current PAWS cats Oreo, Patch and Sweet Pea?  And do you also remember how that helped inspire our friends at The Cat on My Head to sponsor sweet Swizzle (who they also made an honorary Kitty Blue)?

Well, guess what?  Two more of our blogging friends have chosen to sponsor PAWS cats!

First, our pal Spitty the Kitty (and his human Mary) decided to sponsor our handsome and gentle tiger tabby buddy Buster.  Until he is adopted, lucky Buster is officially Spitty's "Foster Bro-Cat." How cool is that?

Thank you, Spitty and Mary!

And THEN, just this past week, our friend Truffles from Melissa's Mochas, Mysteries and Meows held a commentathon to celebrate her mom Melissa's birthday, raising enough to sponsor two PAWS cats.  Truffles and Melissa are sponsoring the irrepressible Truffle:

Thank you, Truffles and Mom Melissa!

And sweet, silly lapcat Cinnamon:

Yes, thank you, Mom Melissa and Truffles!

Of course, our ultimate wish is for these awesome, adoptable cats to find new forever homes soon.  But until they do, isn't it nice that they all have special kitties and humans thinking especially about them?

Have a great weekend, everybody. :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Imah

Found as a stray, our adorable little pal Imah is friendly, outgoing, sweet and snuggly.

This tabby calico loves to play with reckless abandon, but also enjoys cuddling up on the couch with her human volunteer buddies.

Imah is about one year old, gets along with some other cats, and seems fine with children.

She would be a wonderful addition to any household. :)

Imah is spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on all of her vaccinations.  She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.  Come meet this cutie pie today!

Silly and Easy Like Sunday - Molly

As you can see, our sweet, snuggly and adoptable pal Molly is absolutely loving her catnip chili pepper toy.

Here she is with a bit of the silly:

Nom Nom Nom!

And then with a bit of the easy:

Purrs.

Here's hoping your Sunday is as good as Molly's. :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Tom and Andrew

Tom and Andrew had never met until they found themselves in the same room at PAWS

Tuxedo Tom and his magnificent whiskers!

Now they're pals who like to hang out and play together.

Dreamy eyed Andrew, taking a breather after a nice long play session.

Both of these handsome mancats are neutered, micro-chipped and up-to date on all their vaccinations.  While both have tested negative for FeLV, they are positive for FIV (the feline immunodeficiency virus).  But please don't let that stop you from adopting one - or both - of these sweet-natured, cuddly and playful guys.  After all, "...FIV-positive cats can live normal lives both in quality and duration," even though "...they do take special care in terms of monitoring them for signs of infection..." (source: www.bestfriends.org)

Come meet Tom and Andrew today, and fall in love!

FURever Home Friday! :)

Can you believe the end of August is upon us?  It feels like this summer has absolutely flown by.  And when we looked back at our posts, we realized that it's been two months (YIKES!) since we last shared a PAWS adoption update.  So, without further delay, it's time for another edition of FURever Home Friday!

We're very excited to report that LOTS of PAWS kitties found forever homes in July and August.  The adoption rate for August has been one kitty per day!  And July wasn't far behind, in case you're wondering.  And even though summer is the height of "kitten season," there were also more than a few adult cat adoptions included the mix, including Mercury and Gizmo!

"He is very playful, sometimes tackling our other cat while she sleeps. He has lost his extra weight and looks great! No problems with the liter box or food. Thank you for everything!!! We love him!!"

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Tuxedo Tuesday (X2) - Opt to Adopt

Fresh from their foster home, handsome tuxedo brothers Aiden and Joshua are two of the newest PAWS residents. Their foster family reports that these little guys are friendly, sweet, and ready to be adopted together.

Aiden and Joshua were found living in an outdoor colony. After they were caught, it quickly became clear that they were WAY too friendly to live a short, uncertain life outside in a colony. Here's what their foster mom (who took the pictures that accompany this post) had to say about these cuties:

Pick them up and they start purring and making "air muffins." They love playing together, but are also happy to hang with you one-on-one. While they were with us, they enjoyed exploring all corners of our home and don't hide at all. They happily interacted with the resident cats (even when the resident cats didn't quite feel the same way). Aiden gives head butts, and when it’s nap time he can often be found under the covers with just his head peeking out. They both love all toys but feather and string toys are their purr-sonal favorites!

Aiden and Joshua are about four months old, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and have received their first distemper shots. They have tested negative for FIV and FeLV.  In short ... they're ready to pack their toys and go home with you!  And just in case you need extra incentive to adopt this pair, how about lower adoption fees and a whole lot of goodies when you do (The PAWS Kitten Shower runs now through September 16)?
