National Feral Cat Day 2012
Hi everybuddy! It’s me, Sammy! Did you know today is National Feral Cat Day? Since I used to live in a feral cat colony (before I came to PAWS, where the mom and the dad gotcha'd me from), it’s sort of a tradition for me here at Animal Shelter Volunteer Life to write our National Feral Cat Day post.
National Feral Cat Day was started in 2001 by Alley Cat Allies -- the national group that helps feral and stray cats. The people at Alley Cat Allies are also experts about Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), where kittehs who live outdoors are humanely trapped and checked out medically, spayed or neutered and given their shots. Cats who are friendly (like me!) are put up for adoption.
Cats who are truly feral are released back into the areas from which they came, or into managed feral cat colonies, and nice humans feed them every day and take care of any who are sick or get hurt. And because they are spayed and neutered, the cats don't have to deal with stresses like mating and pregnancy, and no new kittens are born.
If you'd like to learn more about National Feral Cat Day, Alley Cat Allies, and/or how you can help feral cats, please click HERE.
Purrs and hugs!
Sammy

Sammy, I'm so glad you got adopted by such wonderful pawrents and don't have to live on the street. Maybe one day we will see a time when there are very few ferals -- because every kitty deserves to feel safe, warm, happy and loved!
Sammy precious boy..I am so glad you were adopted and I am so grateful for PAWS. Every day I am grateful.
Hooray for a great post! Feral cats are just as deserving of love and care.

Thanks for sharing!
Speaking as 3 rescued ferals, we like the idea of Feral Day and hope it works - internationally!
Never knew there was a national today, until today, one feral resides at my bay.
So glad everyone is sharing the feral love! :)
How embarrassing! We missed that today was NFC day. We hope to do a belated post (its not the same as being on time) as its very important. Keep up the good work, lovely furrineds!
Love this post and thanks for sharing the love :-)
Happy National Feral Cat Day! We have colonies here that people take care of, too, and have been part of TNR programs. We love the stories of cats like Sammy that have made the transition from life outside to loving homes, but also the stories of people who care for the cats whose true home is outdoors.
That's the best thing to do when ! congratulations ! each city in the world should do the same !
I am so glad you got gotcha'd... There are several feral colonies by my house and they are cared for by wonderful TNR volunteers. One of my neighbors brought in two little kittens a year or so ago, and they are the happiest, and most spoiled little guys ever....
So glad you are gotchad :)
and so glad that there are volunteers that help the feral cat´s :)
Great post! Thanks for letting us know today is National Cat Feral day :) The mom here has been feeding some stray cats on our neighborhood and has been trying to catch them so she can take them to the no-kill shelters. They've been eating the food which is good but mom will have to figure something else out on how to catch them...
And Con-cats on you being Gotcha'd!! Hugs and purrrs xx
This is a beautiful post. The wonderful humans that take care of all those feral kitties are truly wonderful.
bless them xo
I lovely post. I am overwhelmed with the love for Ferals I have seen from my fellow bloggers. Thank you!
Our favorite pet store donated 500 lbs of food to our local TNR group and then matched pound for pound every customer's donation. they raised 700 lbs of food yesterday! Woohoo, they did the WDA proud.
This post touches my heart! We've cared for many ferals over the years and still do - there are just 3 now, but periodically others begin coming and they're free to eat at our banquet too.
We'd love to learning more about feral cats!
Nubbin wiggles,
Oskar
Wow! Our Hissy Fit Jones and Little Girl were both from feral colonies!
crucial work. So impressed and supportive of all that is being done.
Love Helen, Darcy and Bingley xxx
It was wonderful to see all of the great posts on National Feral Cat Day - thank you for sharing yours!! We also wanted to say that we really enjoyed learing about the human male at his appearance on the Responsible Pet Ownership Blog!!
FaRADaY: *waves paw wildly* HI Sammy! Sometimes we likes to go back and read some of the posts again - and we were SHOCKED to find out the mama must not have hit the publish button! So we dragged her lazy--- err, we very nicely asked her to repost. (MOL)
We think National Feral Cat Day is pawesome - and TNR is so very important.
How cool that you have the background to be such a natural and charismatic spokescat for the cause!
Looks like Lola has found a great spot! :-)
