Memorial Mancat Monday - Lloydie

This is a very sad time for the PAWS volunteers and staff. On Friday, we bid a final farewell to our sweet and handsome friend Lloydie.  This amazing, peaceable and loving kitteh first came to PAWS in May 2011.

Lloydie and me: headbonking buddies forever

Lloydie had recently become very ill, had begun to lose a lot of weight, and was disinterested in food.  An ultrasound gave the vets strong reason to believe that cancer was the probable cause.  To complicate matters, he was in the terminal stages of acute liver failure, having difficulty breathing and weak.  As our shelter director, Michele, said so eloquently, “…extraordinary measures such as feeding tubes would be in complete opposition to our love for Lloydie, and our most fervent wish that he not suffer.”

So, with Michele holding him in her arms, Lloydie was gently helped to the Rainbow Bridge Friday afternoon.

Our wish is for all PAWS animals to be adopted to live out their days with homes and people of their very own. While that didn't happen for Lloydie, we are thankful that PAWS' no-kill policy meant he was in a safe, warm and loving environment for the final 1 1/2 years of his life.

We miss your headbonks already, Lloydie, and we love you forever. Fly free, sweet boy ... we'll see you when we get to the Rainbow Bridge.

We are very sad to read about Lloydie. While he may not have had been adopted, he did have a "home" with people he loved and was loved in return. Thank you for taking such good care of him.

God speed, LLoydie:( It is always so sad to lose a furry friend. I don't think he knew he never got the chance to be adopted, as, for all he knew, he already was home, with lots of people that loved him.Isn't that what a forever home is?

We are so sorry to hear abut Lloydie. Even though he wasn't "adopted," he had a happy home with all of you. We send you all comforting purrs and headbutts.

I'm so sorry he's passed, but am so grateful he had you all, to the end. And I'm so glad you didn't go the "extraordinary measures" for him. I often think that those things are done for the humans involved, not for the poor Being who is suffering, especially when it's a terminal illness.

Wishing you all peace and blessings, and wishing Lloydie godspeed.

Purrs from the boys.

This is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful boy.

I got to see Lloyd last Sunday. Such a sweet fellow, but certainly not the kitty he used to be. His illnesses had taken their toll on him, and it was apparent.

Run free, sweet boy! There are so many friends waiting for you at The Bridge!

Oh I'm so sorry. He sounds like a very special kitty.

I'm thankful your shelter director for not allow extraordinary measures that may have prolonged his life some but would have given him a poor quality of life - which is not was PAWS is about.

Thank you for taking such great care of him and knowing when it was time to let him go.

Run free Lloydie.

MY mom just has a river of tears about sweet Lloydie. A dear and loved cat who as others said so well, didn't know he didn't have a frever home for he was home where he was loved. Headbonks proved he knew that. God speed sweetest little boy and we'll all meet again one day. You will see your rescuers and they will see you and the others who went before and the joy for all will be just beyond knowing now. xoxox

Thank you Paws for caring for these innocent ones. <3

Thank heaven Lloyd had such a loving network of PAWS family with which to spend his last days. He was cared for and treated with dignity and for that the WDA is so grateful. We would like to remember Lloyd in our special way: by including him on our Tribute Wall. May we? He is a brave Warrior of the noblest kind. May he be at peace.
