Tracey and I often wonder what leads someone to abandon a pet. We just can't imagine ever giving up our own furry children. And that's why we can't for the life of us understand why someone abandoned sweet Teal in PAWS' parking lot back in October.
This beautiful and petite grey and white tuxedo girl had obviously belonged to someone, so we're sure it was overwhelming for her to be left outside, then thrust into a shelter situation with so many unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells.
At first, Teal was extremely scared. In the "open" cat room in which she was placed, she would hide behind the couch, never making eye contact, and venturing out only to eat or to use the litter box. Despite this, it was pretty clear to us that she was an extremely gentle kitty, and we discovered that if we reached behind the couch, she'd let us pet her, and would eventually purr softly. :)
As the weeks and months have passed, Teal's confidence has grown. She still has a ways to go, but now she can often be found lounging on the couch with her roommates -- or a volunteer. She loves being pet and talked to softly. And we can always tell when she's especially content, because when she is, her little pink tongue sticks out! :)

I cannot understand it either...so thankful for people like you and places like yours that give them a second chance. Teal is just beautiful and also very lucky.
she's sooooo gorgeous!!! she looks like she'd be great to hug and cuddle up with. it also amazes me how cats in different parts of the world actually look so different!! all the cats on your blog are so beautiful!! i've noticed that the cats on your blog (in the states right?) all have rounded features and large eyes. they look like they're bigger too and their coat colors are different from kitties in malaysia. cats here tend to be skinnier with sharper, pointed features.
She is very cute and beautiful :-)
Lovely touching story ...
Thanks for the birthday wishes

What a beautiful girl! She and Pepper look like they could be sisters! We are at least thankful that she was left at a place that she would be well cared for. We are purring for her to find the perfect people soon.
Fabulous pictures! They really capture her beauty.
We are glad to hear sweet Teal is gaining confidence and is coming out more!! She's a gorgeous ladycat!
There's nothing good to say about cowards who take responsibility for a living creature and then abandon it.
We're happy to see beautiful Teal is responding to the unconditional love and affection she's getting... our human staff would love to love on her, too.
It's beyond me how anyone could abandon such a sweetheart too! It's so nice to hear that Teal is doing better with your attention. She's such a cutie!
She's so beautiful. We hope she gets a great Forever Home very soon.
What a beauty. We love her little tongue! Who knows why people abandon their pets. Thank God shelters like yours can rescue them.
We don't understand it either. At least Teal's bean did it at a place where she could be cared for. Mom gets mad acuz some stoopid beans dump der domesticated cats at one feral cat colony! What is wrong wif dem, da shelter is 1/2 mile away and will accept der kitty!
she is sooo beautiful! Reminds me of my cat PETIE! http://ihavecat.wordpress.com/the-cats/
I work with City Critters in NYC and I am always SHOCKEd by the beautiful cats that are dumped....breaks my heart....she is really lovely and I hops she finds an equally deserving family...
I never understand it either when it happens at a rescue but I always think maybe the person was so desperate and didn't know how to ask for help or had heard "I'm sorry we're full" too many times. I try - albeit not very successfully at times - to give people the benefit of the doubt. Abandoning an animal is horrible, but at least they did abandon her somewhere where she would be helped.
She is absolutely gorgeous. I love the tongue.
I hope Teal finds a forever home soon!
Oh she's just a sweetheart. I want to reach out and pet her and tell her it will all be ok. I hope she finds her forever home very soon. In the meantime she is so very lucky to have you and the other volunteers. You make all the difference.
XOXO,
Glogirly
