A few weeks back, Tracey and I were checking out some of the newest PAWS cats. On one of the intake cages was a card that read, "Vine." I looked in, and gasped when I realized that the cute, round-faced adult kitty looking back at me was an old, dear friend who had been one of the first cats ever featured on our blog (back in January 2009).
Vine always had the sweetest, most loving disposition, and we never forgot this snuggly girl, even after she was adopted. When we opened the cage door, it was pretty evident she remembered us, too. And that she still had the same amazing personality. She popped right up and repeatedly rubbed her face against mine, all the while kneading her cat bed and purring away. :)
We found out that Vine came back to PAWS through no fault of her own. Sadly, her human became ill, and is no longer able to keep her. We can tell Vine's human loved her a lot, and took good care of her. And even though she's now a senior kitty (13 years old), it's clear she still has so much love to give, and so much life to live. Vine is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, micro-chipped, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Won't you please consider giving this beautiful lovebug the new forever home she wants and deserves?

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Thor

Easy Like Selfie Sunday
As we've done a few times before, we've decided to have a fun little mash-up of two of our favorite Sunday memes -- "Easy Like Sunday" and "Sunday Selfies Blog Hop (sponsored by our pals at The Cat on My Head)." Getting things started with a Sunday Selfie is gorgeous and snuggly torbi cat Stormy...
This super gentle ladycat is about 4 years old. Found as a stray, she is friendly, gets along well with other cats, loves people, and would be a wonderful addition to any family. Stormy is spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Oh, and as you can see, she takes a terrific selfie. :)
Stormy's roommate Mimi also has some serious selfie skills...
Mimi is a little shy, but she is friendly and loves to play. She gets along well with other kitties, and enjoys the company of people she knows. We're sure she'll blossom when she finds her forever home. Mimi is spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.
And now for the EASY part of today's post. Here's beautiful Naomi, catching a few Zs in the PAWS kitchen. We certainly think she has the right idea. We also hope you all have the chance to follow her example sometime today. :)
Naomi is about 3 years old. The adjustment to life at the shelter has been a bit tough for this ladycat, but she is starting to find her confidence. She would probably do well in a quieter home, with humans who will be patient and kind with her. Naomi is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccinations. She is negative for FIV and FeLV.
Stormy, Mimi and Naomi (and lots of other amazing and adoptable cats) are waiting at PAWS to find their very own happily ever afters. Have a great Sunday!

BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Awards Finalists! :)
It's true, Moosey! The finalists for the BlogPaws 2015 Nose-to-Nose Awards were announced on Wednesday night, and Animal Shelter Volunteer Life has been named one of the “final four” in the "Best Cause Blog" category!
For the uninitiated, the BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Pet Blogging and Social Media Awards are the only pet industry awards wherein pet bloggers and micro-bloggers are judged on the expertise, performance, and creativity of the entry. Each category is judged by a distinguished panel of professionals (not by popular vote), and this year, the 48 finalists in 12 categories were chosen from more than 1,000 entries. Winners will be revealed in an exclusive red-carpet ceremony at BlogPaws Annual Conference, taking place in May, in Nashville, Tennessee.
What an honor (and shock) to be included among so many incredible bloggers we deeply respect and admire (and many of whom are good friends). Thank you to those who nominated us, to the judging panel, and to BlogPaws. And HUGE thanks to all of YOU, for sharing in our lives, for being our friends and for believing in us!
Congratulations to all of the finalists, including our fellow Best Cause Blog category finalists:
Deaf Dogs Rock
Conservation Cub Club

* Shelter Cats is the awesome blog of our friend and fellow shelter volunteer, Maggie! Never in our wildest dreams could we have imagined that two of the four “Best Cause Blog” finalists would be about the wonderful adoptable PAWS cats. :)

Dr. Seuss Day 2015!
Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss! Today is Dr. Seuss Day, and fans around the world are celebrating the birthday of this famous author and illustrator who touched the lives of so many. As is the case every year, many members of the pet blogging community are joining in the fun by taking part in the "Dr. Seuss Day Challenge." As you can see, Moosey, Gracie and Zoe have dressed up for the celebration...
And here's one of our favorite Dr. Seuss quotes, which talks about how caring deeply is the first step towards making a difference in the world around us.
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."
