Happy Gotcha Day, Moosey!

Happy Gotcha Day, Moosey!

Thanks to our friend Ann, at Zoolatry, for this beautiful badge!

We're grateful and glad that you came home with us six years ago (on June 6, 2008).

Thank you for choosing us to be your family,

and for making our home such a happy place.

We love you, buddy, and cherish each and every moment we have with you,

Dad, Mom, Gracie and Zoe

=====

Thank you to all of our wonderful friends who have been sending love, purrs and prayers for Moosey's health.  He's doing really well!  His daily medications (which he's so good about taking) are keeping things in check, and his doctor says things look good.  So with that said, we do hope you'll all help us celebrate Moosey's special day. :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Oscar

The eyes have it!

Handsome and adoptable Oscar has some of the biggest, roundest peepers ever!

Sadly, this friendly guy came to PAWS after his owner got sick.  Oscar was obviously well-loved, because he is very sweet and loves hanging out with his volunteer pals.

Oscar is about 12 years old, neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations.  He has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.  He's waiting at PAWS for his new forever home, and has lots of love to give to whoever is lucky enough to adopt him. :)

==========

Did you know today (June 4) is Hug Your Cat Day?  Moosey, Gracie and Zoe get hugs EVERY day, but we'll use any excuse to give them some more. Happy Hug Your Cat Day! :)

Mommy Cat Mushka's Photo Shoot

Pretty and petite mommy cat Mushka is new at PAWS, but she's already shown herself to be gentle, loving and sweet.

Her kittens have all been adopted, and now she's waiting to find her very own happily-ever-after (and getting lots of love and attention from the shelter volunteers and staff in the meantime). :)

Mushka is about three years old, micro-chipped and spayed (as you can see by her shaved belly).  She is up-to-date on her vaccinations.  She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

 Come meet Mushka today!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Jeter

Adorable Jeter is a total lovebug. He loves a good snuggle and (as you can see) enjoys a nice belly rub. :)

Jeter is about three years old, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccinations. He's tested negative for FIV and FeLV. And he's looking for his new forever best friend. Could that be you?

FURever Home Friday!

Hooray!  It's FURever Home Friday!  And we have some HUGE adoption news to report!

Do you remember our recent post about beautiful, shy and sweet house panther Mercedes, who had been at the shelter for more than five years?  Well, guess what?  She's been adopted!  But wait ... there's more.  Mercedes was adopted together with Cameron, another sweet adult black cat! :)

Mercedes has been adopted, together with Cameron!

In other really big adoption news, pretty Patches (she's the calico kitty with her eyes closed in our blog header) also found her own happily ever after!

Patches

And handsome, snuggly Dexter found a new family, too!

Dexter

Here's the full list of all of the most recent PAWS graduates:

Dexter
Falafel
Grace
Madison and Magic (together)
Mango and Marley (together)
Mercedes and Cameron (together)
Patches
Two Do and Breezy (together)

To all of the adoptees: Have a great life, dear friends.  We will love you always, and are so happy for you and your new families!

===============================

And to close out the post, here's a happy tail (tale) about our pal Kipper, from his mom:

Kipper is doing great and we love him! He adapted very quickly and had a pretty seamless transition. He eats very well and always uses his litterbox, so we haven't had any issues at all. He's a wonderful addition and a wonderful cat, and has made himself right at home. Now that the weather is nice and the windows are open, he finds himself sunbathing in the windowsill for hours on end - I snapped a pic of him this afternoon - see below!  Please be in touch with any other questions, and I'll try to send some more pictures of him lounging like a true gentleman! - Sarah

Yay for Kipper!
Have a great weekend, everybody! :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

As gray and white tuxedo Sparky looks on, Freddie makes a hostile takeover bid for the coveted window hammock being occupied by (Sparky's brother) Shadow.

Shadow says, "No!"

We're happy to report this little tiff didn't escalate any further, and happiness was once again restored to the PAWS volunteer kitchen. :)

Happy Wednesday, everybody!

Easy Like Sunday - Telepathy Style

They say great minds think alike. Adoptable kitties Snickers and Khal may live in different rooms at PAWS...

Snickers
...but it looks like they've got the same idea about how to spend their respective Sundays.

Khal
Here's hoping YOUR Sunday is easy as the one being enjoyed by these two cuties! :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Tammikuu

Found as a stray, our super handsome friend Tammikuu (his name is Finnish, for "January") is thankful to be waiting safely at PAWS for a new forever home.

As you can see, he's a patient and wonderful model.

He's also sweet, gentle and playful.

Tammikuu is about four years old, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all his vaccinations. He has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

He's available for adoption, and waiting to meet you :)

Adorable and Adoptable Andrew

Just look at that smile.

This is our friend Andrew (also known as "Hobo," since he was found as a stray).  In case you're wondering if he's as sweet, snuggly and friendly as he looks, the answer is an unequivocal YES.  This gentle and easygoing mancat loves people and cats alike (not to mention HUGS), and he's quickly become a favorite of the shelter volunteers. :)

Andrew is about 4 years old, neutered, and up to date on all his vaccinations.  He has tested positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), but is currently asymptomatic.  It's very important to keep in mind that, "...FIV-positive cats can live normal lives both in quality and duration, (although) they do take special care in terms of monitoring them for signs of infection and they do have a tendency to have bad dental disease." (source: Best Friends Animal Society)

Andrew is waiting to dazzle you with his sparkling personality, and his smile (which is even cuter in person).  Come meet him today, and fall in love! :)

To see more pictures of Andrew, be sure to visit our friend and fellow volunteer Maggie's awesome blog, Sundays at the Shelter.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! :)

Happy Cinco de Mayo (or maybe we should say Cinco de MEOW-YO) from Moosey, Gracie and Zoe, and all of us here at Animal Shelter Volunteer Life!  Catnip Meow-garitas, anyone?

Sweet Mercedes

Beautiful Mercedes has been at PAWS for five years, making her one of the shelter's longest-term residents.

She's sweet and gentle, and loves other kitties, catnip and sunpuddles.

Now all this gorgeous house panther needs is a nice, quiet forever home, with a person to call her very own.

Mercedes is about 6 1/2 years old, spayed, up to date on all of her vaccinations, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Merritt

Isn't our adoptable torbie pal, Merritt, gorgeous?

Merritt is about 4 years old, spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on all her vaccinations.  This playful ladycat has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.  She gets along with some other cats, and would probably do best in a quieter home without small children.

Easy Like Sunday - Roger

Gentle and handsome Roger is spending his day "relaxamicating."

From his head...

...to his toes

Have an easy Sunday, everybody. :)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Olga

This is our pretty friend Olga.  She's about one year old.

Olga arrived at PAWS as a stray a few months ago.

We hope Olga's forever family finds her soon.  In the meantime, this gentle girl is getting lots of love and attention from all of her volunteer human pals.

Olga gets along well with other kitties, and would probably do best in a quieter home.  She is spayed, micro-chipped, up-to-date on her vaccinations, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.  Come meet her today! :)

FURever Home Friday :)

Those of you who've been following Animal Shelter Volunteer Life for a while probably remember our gorgeous and petite friend, Tessa.  She's the long-haired, grey and white tuxedo cat who is nearly smack dab in the middle of our blog header. We've also featured her in posts a number of times.  Tessa first came to PAWS in January of 2011, and she's come very close to being adopted more than once.  Well, guess what?  (You kind of know what's coming, don't you?) Tessa has been...

Tessa's new mommy recently had to say goodbye to her beloved kitty (whose time it was to go to the Rainbow Bridge).  When her heart was ready to love and adopt another, she met Tessa.  And the rest, as they say, is history. :)

Look who else found forever homes since our last FURever Home Friday post!

Also joining the adoption parade were:
Benjamin
Button
Dame Judi Dench (aka DJD)
Will

Congratulations to all of the graduates and their new families!

And to close this post, here's an update from the family of PAWS graduate Benny (formerly Bender) that's sure to give you even more smiles...

We adopted "Bender" who is now Benny in Sept. He is doing fantastic!! He
adjusted great and got so big and tall from then until now.  I absolutely love
him.  You will see below he is very comfortable and loves his home.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Grover

Looking for love? Then look no further than our handsome and sweet pal, Grover, 'cause he's FULL of love.  We're not sure how Grover ended up on the streets (he was found as a stray), but it's clear he learned about love from someone who adored him very much.

Grover loves laps, snuggles and being pet.  He's about 10 years old, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all of his vaccinations.  He gets along with other kitties, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.  Oh, and he's waiting to meet you. :)

Easy Like Sunday - Moosey (with an update)

Hi everybuddy!  It's me, Moosey!  So many of you have been purring and praying for me, and asking about how I'm doing, so we thought this would be a great time to give you all an update.

Last weekend, Mom and Dad took me to the v-e-t.  The nice technicians weighed me, stole my bloods (!) and took my blood pressure.  I was cool, calm and sweet during all of that, but I can tell you I sure was happy we got to come home right afterwards.  On Monday, Dr. L. called to say that my test results had came back, and that they were good!  The medicine (spironolactone) and the potassium supplement I am taking every day are working to keep my potassium levels where they should be.  She said my potassium levels are perfect for now!  My blood pressure is (on the high side of) normal, and my kidney levels are staying steady, too.  Oh, and I'm also maintaining my weight. :)

With such a positive report, we're all sleeping a little easier these days...

Thank you, everybuddy, for your love, concern and continued friendship.  Have a peaceful, snoozy and EASY Sunday.

Big hugs and headbonks,

Moosey (and Gracie and Zoe, and Mom and Dad, too)

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday Whiskers - Nassau

Gentle and petite Nassau is sweet, gentle, friendly, and WHISKERY! :)

This beautiful ladycat really enjoys spending time with her volunteer pals, and gets along with the other cats in her room, too.

Nassau would do best in a quieter home, and promises to give whoever is lucky enough to adopt her lots and lots of love.  She's about 7 years-old, spayed, up-to-date on her vaccinations, and microchipped.  She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

Flashback Friday Friends

Check out this picture our friend (and fellow longtime volunteer), Maggie, found recently in her files.  She took it at PAWS about nine years ago.  The big kitty is our (Mom Tracey and Dad Kevin's) angel Lady Madonna.  The image brought back a flood of memories, including the fact that these kittens were NOT Lady Madonna's.  One of our favorite things about Lady is that she loved all cats and kittens.  And she was more than happy to play the role of cuddly auntie to these two babies (Dipsy and Doodle) whose biological mommy wasn't really into the more tender aspects of motherhood.

Flash forward to about 1 1/2 weeks ago.  Maggie (who many of you know through her awesome Sundays at the Shelter blog) saw something that gave her pause when she looked at the faces of PAWS newcomers Roxy and Tripper.  When she asked us what we thought, Tracey and I saw it, too.  Do you?

Roxy
Tripper
Yep, you guessed it ... Roxy and Tripper are Dipsy and Doodle, all grown up.  We don't know why they've ended up back at PAWS after all these years, but we know they are friendly, gentle and still very attached to each other.  While it sort of breaks our hearts to see them back, we're glad our long lost friends will be safe, warm and loved until they find their new happily ever after.

Another baby picture of Roxy (left) and Tripper
Maybe you, or somebody you know, can give these sweet siblings the second chance they so deserve?

Easy Like Sunday - Mikan

Hi, everybuddy.  I'm Mikan, one of the kitties waiting at PAWS for forever homes.  As you can see, I'm hanging out today in this big 'ol cat tree in the meeting room.  It's the perfect place for a mancat like me to explore, scratch, play and take it easy.  Sometimes I like sitting on top of the platforms, like this...

But for true relaxamicating, I prefer the security and comfort of being (sort of) inside one of the cat tree's cubbyholes...

 Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
