Giving Thanks for FURever Homes :)

With Thanksgiving Weekend upon us, we have a lot for which to be grateful. One of the things we're most thankful for is seeing so many of our shelter friends find their forever homes. And while all gotcha stories are wonderful, some tug extra hard at the ol' heartstrings...

Like our sweet and gentle friend, Swizzle. Adored by all of the volunteers and staff (and our wonderful friends at The Cat on My Head, who sponsored her every month for the past 2 1/2 years!), Swizzle waited for nearly six years at the shelter, until she went home last weekend with fellow PAWS volunteer, Chris.
The two of them have a very special connection, and we're all over the moon that Swizzle is now living it up with Chris and his two other cats, Tumble and (PAWS graduate) Truffle. Be sure to check out the "Happy Tails" section at the bottom of this post to read Chris' account of Swizzle's first week home!

And then, there's our handsome 16 year-old housepanther buddy, Clyde, who was first adopted from PAWS as a kitten, only to be returned recently when his human had to go into assisted living. Clyde is the nicest boy ever, so we know he was well-loved in his first forever home. As you can guess, the chances of a senior black cat with age-related health issues being adopted aren't exactly promising. But miracles do come true. And this one came courtesy of our friend Layla, from Cat Wisdom 101.
From what we hear, Clyde's transition to living with Layla, husband Joe, and cats Domino, Odin and Nou Nou went off without a hitch. Check out Layla's post about it here!

Do you remember senior lapcat, Mischief, who found herself at PAWS after her elderly owner could no longer care for her? Well, she found her happily ever after, and boy, is she ever loved.
Her new family says, "Mischief is awesome ... she's super mellow ... the kids love her ... we are all so happy! ... thank you for Mischief! ... things are perfect ... Mischief has no problem with anyone!"

What would a FURever Home Friday post be without some happy tails tales?

"Mikan is great! He's settled in and has commandeered our bed as his own! He's eating well, playing, especially with his scratching post) and loves lounging about. Thank you for checking up on him and, even more so, for letting us adopt him. He's part of our family now and we just love our chubby little dude!"

"Swizzle arrived home Saturday afternoon. She was greeted by my other two cats, Tumble and Truffle. Truffle is a PAWS alumni. They checked out the carrier but were otherwise cool and collected with the new roommate. Although I was prepared to separate the cats for a time being, that wasn't necessary. My cats gave Swizzle her space. Over the next few days she stayed by herself and didn't explore much. There was probably some sniffing around along the way to and from the litter box but other than that I don't think she wandered around. She still doesn't, but that's okay with me if that's okay with her. This Saturday I thought it was time to get her a personal lounge area like I have for Tumble and Truffle. So I found something that reminds me of her previous wicker hut. And she gravitated towards the new lounge immediately. She loves it! So far, so good, Swizzle! Keep it up."

"I just love Nashibee! She is even better than I could have hoped for. She settled in right away and has such a sweet personality. We are both very lucky. Thank you!"

Happy Thanksgiving, everybuddy!
And happy FURever Home Friday, too. :)

Of course, no FURever Home Friday is complete without a Happy Tail Tale. And do we ever have a wonderful one for you today!

I wanted to let you know how much I love Miss Zoe and what a wonderful addition she is to my home. I adopted her a few weeks after losing my beloved Jasmine very suddenly, leaving her best buddy Roxy alone. I wasn't sure if adopting a new kitty so soon would be a great idea, but when I saw Zoe on the PAWS website, I had to meet her. I walked into one of the kitty rooms, filled with kitties looking for forever homes, and there she was ... sitting on a cage and staring at the wall. It broke my heart. As soon as Zoe was in my arms, she was content and didn't seem like she wanted to leave. That was it for me ... I was adopting this sweet girl.

Since that time, she and Roxy have bonded. Roxy has always been an alpha cat, so finding a kitty like Zoe was a perfect match. She's simply happy to have a lap to sleep on, food in her bowl, and lots of hugs and snuggles. We all couldn't be happier. I know that Zoe was put up for adoption due to her former owner's illness, which was another reason for me taking her in. I felt like I owed it to the person who had to give up this wonderful girl. I cant imagine being ill and having to give away my fur babies, so heartbreaking. While I don't know the whereabouts of her former owner, I wish she could know that her baby is very loved and happy. I've enclosed a few photos of Zoe (and Roxy).

Happy weekend, everybuddy!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Meow-Wow

Doesn't our handsome housepanther buddy Meow-Wow have the sweetest face? And this is one book you can judge by its cover, because this guy is one of the most gentle, loving kitties we've ever met.

Waiting for a belly rub
When he first arrived at PAWS, we could tell Meow-Wow was a bit overwhelmed by the sights, sounds and smells of the shelter. He warily watched the shelter volunteers and staff from the back of his cage, but we could see that he really, really wanted to interact with us. And we were right. After just a couple of weeks, Meow-Wow is quickly gaining a reputation as a serious lapcat, and an unabashed love bug who loves pets, scritches and good conversation. :)

Meow-Wow is about 5 years old. He'd do best in a quieter home, without small children. He's neutered, micro-chipped and current on his vaccinations, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. If you're looking for love, your search is over. Come meet Meow-Wow today!

FURever Home Friday - WOW!

Krystal and Loreen have been adopted! :)

We're so glad it's FURever Home Friday, because we have some big news to share!

Do you remember our pals Krystal and Loreen?  These beautiful sisters waited patiently at PAWS for nearly two years to be adopted.  Until yesterday, that is, when they went off to their very own forever home!  How strange (in the best way possible) it will be this weekend without Loreen on Tracey's lap, and Krystal laying on a towel next to me.  We've been told they really connected strongly with the couple who adopted them. Way to pick your new mom and dad,  girls! New Mom Sharon and Dad Jim promise to send photos and follow-ups, so stay tuned. :)

Here's the full list of cats in this most recent "graduating" class:

Apple and Cherry (together)
Bing
Chairman Meow and Mei Ling (together)
Cheddar and Colby Jack (together)
Colby and Harper (together)
Dan D Lion
Krystal and Loreen (together)
Parfait
Shadow II and Tails (together)

Wanna smile just a little bit more?  Then check out these great happy tails tales!

"I just wanted to thank you for Jack.  He is a wonderful part of our family.  It only took a week for him to start running around the house.  And he gets along so well with our other cats.  He is just a joy and we love him."

Remember Sandy?  His new mom says "...he has a new BFF named Salt. Salt and Sandy can always be found together. Sandy is quite the talker. He is still not comfortable with quick human moves or with being loomed over (as in getting picked up), but he is all about being up on the bed at night and in the morning to snuggle and get pets. We find him to be the most lovable cat ever. And incredibly playful. He has lots of toys and drags them all over the house."

Sandy's mom also said that because Sandy is hesitant about eating in the kitchen when his humans are in there getting food and such, they moved his food to the mid-stair landing where he can eat in what he feels is a safe spot.  We love that this sweet boy has found a family that understands and loves him so well. :)

That's about it for this post.  Have a great weekend, everybody! :)

Wow! We Won an Award :)

Holy cat! Our friends at Furbaby Chat! have given us the pawsome Versatile Blogger Award. Thank you Sharky, ET, Duchess and Lauren for being our friends, and for choosing us for this honor. We've said it before, but it bears repeating ... we love sharing about all of our kitty friends at PAWS, so we're extremely flattered whenever animals and their humans derive enjoyment from the stories and images here on our blog. :)

According to the rules that accompany the award, we're supposed to share seven things about ourselves. But since this is a blog about the cats at PAWS, we hope it's okay if we share about seven of them instead! And in case you're wondering, all these kitties are still looking for their forever homes.

1. Gadget is one of the smartest cats we know. He has a great memory, so we can never use the same trick twice to get him back into his cage.

2. Susie loves living in the volunteer lounge. As you can see, this also means there is one less locker available for us to use. ;)

3. Gizmo is a gentle giant. His roommates and volunteers alike love this big, sweet orange boy.

4. Keesa’s favorite activity is licking volunteers’ hands. Remember to rotate your hand, or you’ll have a red spot from her sandpapery tongue.

5. Beautiful Augusta is the queen of the “silent” meow. She is a great jumper, too ... she can leap up onto things with the greatest of ease.

6. Oliver really likes dogs. In fact, he helps the PAWS staff test woofies to make sure they can safely live in a home with cats.

7. Babe is a total sweetheart. She loves people and cats alike.

The rules also state that we have to pass along the award to 15 blogging friends. How can we choose just 15, when we have so many friends with amazing blogs? Talk about difficult. In any case, here's our list, but know that it could've easily been twice as long! Please check out these blogs when you have a chance. You'll be happy you did.

And finally, we're supposed to notify the award recipients, so off we go!

Have a great weekend, everyone. :)
