Lizzie's Sunday Selfie

Our sweet friend Lizzie is still getting used to things at the shelter, but when we asked for volunteers for this week's Sunday selfie, look who raised her paw! Isn't she beautiful? 😸

Sadly, this lovable, bright-eyed senior finds herself at PAWS after her human had to go into a nursing home. During her short time here, Lizzie has rarely ventured out of her cage during "out time," instead preferring to stay within the security of its walls. But today, she showed us that things are going to be just fine. While we were spending time with her, this ladycat jumped out of her open cage, walked over to where I was sitting on the floor, rubbed against my knee, and laid down for an extended session of pets, scritches and purring. Happiness all around! 💖

Lizzie is about 14 years old, which means she qualifies for the PAWS Senior Pension Plan. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt her will get an amazing kitty with no adoption fee, and a free annual wellness exam, vaccinations and blood work analysis for the rest of her life. She's spayed, micro-chipped, current on her vaccinations, negative for FIV and FeLV and ready to find her happily ever after. Lizzie gets along well with other nice cats, but would be just as happy as your one and only. Looking for love? You've found it, and her name is Lizzie!

A Home for Every Cat #RememberMeThursday

Thursday, September 27, is Remember Me Thursday, a special international event that shines a light on orphan pets, and the beauty and life-saving importance of pet adoption. To mark this special awareness day, we're sharing about something wonderful that happened on Sunday.

We like to think there's the right home for every cat that comes through the doors of PAWS. Sometimes, it takes a long time to find that home, but we all believe it's out there, somewhere. 

Some shelter cats get adopted quickly. These are most often the young, friendly and outgoing cats who deal well with being in new and unfamiliar places. But there are also cats who are older, or ones who are shy, scared and/or less outgoing with strangers. They may be wonderful, and love the humans with whom they are familiar (shelter staff and volunteers), but these kitties often don't show well and tend to get passed over time and again by potential adopters.

One such cat was volunteer favorite Patch, who first came to PAWS on May 28, 2010, when his human mom passed away. At that time, we wrote that, "The woman’s widower said, “…he didn’t want Patch and his mother around ‘because they were a reminder of his late wife.’" And if that wasn’t bad enough, whoever put Patch into the carrier to be brought to PAWS did so with such force that his back claws were torn. It’s no wonder that Patch was terrified of people when we first met him." (You can read one of our first posts about Patch here.)

With love and patient persistence from his volunteer friends, Patch learned that some humans were sources of good things. But after 8 1/3 years of watching other cats come and go, would he ever find his happily ever after? We're happy to report that the answer is YES. This past Sunday, Patch was adopted! And there wasn't a dry eye in the house. He is going to a home with experienced cat parents, who have promised to send us lots of photos and updates. He will be joining a senior gal kitty in the home as a companion. We know Patch will flourish with his mom and dad's love and a regular routine.

 We are over the moon that Patch and his new parents made that special forever love connection. He's certainly one of the lucky ones. But every day, thousands of cats and dogs aren’t so fortunate. Through no fault of their own, they end up in shelters that are not able to give them the time they need to adjust, and many die while waiting for their forever homes. Please consider rescuing your next pet instead of shopping for one. You'll be saving that pet's life - and the life of the next one that can now be taken in by the shelter!

Check out our handsome and adoptable buddy, Lance! He's super playful, friendly and, as you can see from these selfies, extremely photogenic.😸

Lance is just about 1 1/2 years old. He's active and outgoing, and loves to greet any humans lucky enough to visit his room. Lance is neutered, microchipped, current on his vaccinations and negative for FIV and FeLV. He gets along with other nice cats, and we suspect that he would also be good with a cat-friendly dog. Meow Like a Pirate Day!

Ahoy there, mateys! This day be "Meow Like a Pirate Day" on Ye Olde Cat Blogosphere (and "Talk Like a Pirate Day" for humans). We (Captain Gracie, and First Mate Ava) be sailin' the high seas in our never ending quest fer th' most sought after of all treasure - forever homes fer all 'o our adorable 'n adoptable PAWS (whar we larned all 'o our scurvy pirate skills) kitty buckos. Thar be friends a plenty and our fine vessel be outfitted with a wealth 'o provisions ... tuna, shrimps, chicken, ham, cheese, catnip, sea monster spiced rum (cat milk), all sorts 'o toys, sea monster scratchers, feathers, fleecy blankets, boxes 'n beds. So gather, friends, as we set sail!

Oh, and lest we forget ... It's Wednesday, which means we're hopping along at these awesome blogs! How about you? 😸

Sunday Selfies with B.B.

It's Sunday, which means we're taking part in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our wonderful buddies at the Cat on My Head. All we needed was for one of the PAWS kitties to step up to take some selfies. And as you can see, gentle and adoptable mancat B.B. did just that. Isn't he handsome?

B.B. is about 10 years old, and finds himself at the shelter after someone in his family developed allergies. He loves attention, enjoys being pet, and gets along with other nice cats. B.B. is neutered, microchipped, current on his vaccinations and negative for FIV and FeLV. He's such a nice kitty, and he's so ready to find his real happily ever after. Come meet B.B. today! 💖

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Sherry and Sebastian

Everybody loves our friends, Sherry and Sebastian. And we mean everybody. This bonded sister and brother are friendly, sweet and playful. Sebastian is the love bug/lap cat of the two. As for Sister Sherry, she is full of energy and playful as a kitten (she goes wild for the laser toy). Not a week goes by without the humans at PAWS expressing astonishment about this pair still not being adopted. Seriously!

Check out this quick video of Sherry getting comfy - until Aunt Tracey walked into the room. That of course, prompted the need for Sherry to snoopervise. So, off she went! 😹

 These two adorable kitties are about 10 1/2 years old, spayed/neutered, current on their vaccinations and negative for FIV and FeLV. Easy Like Sunday Selfie - Treasure

With a name like Treasure, you'd probably guess this beautiful ladycat is pretty darned special. And if you did, you'd be 100% correct! We hung out with her this afternoon, and can attest to the fact that Treasure is super sweet, playful and all around awesome. Oh, and as you can see from these photos, she also happens to be incredibly photogenic. 😻

Treasure is about 2 years old. She's spayed, microchipped, current on her vaccinations and negative for FIV and FeLV.  She gets along with other nice cats, but would also be fine as your one and only BFF. Treasure will definitely enrich your life, so come meet her today!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Carmen

Today's featured cutie is our super sweet and pretty friend, Carmen. This little ladycat ended up at PAWS after being found as a stray. We're glad she's here, where she's being doted upon and well cared for as she waits to be discovered by her forever family.

Two year-old Carmen is friendly, playful and confident, and loves to be petted and have attention from her human pals. She gets along with most other nice cats, but would also be happy as an only kitty, if that's how you roll. 😺 Carmen is spayed, microchipped, current on her vaccinations and negative for FIV and FeLV. Today's selfies are a brotherly two-for-one! Tabby Mac and housepanther Louie are ultra friendly bros, who as you can see, know exactly what they're doing when it comes to posing for photos. Handsome, aren't they?

Mac and Louie are bonded, and must be adopted together (remember that "twofer" thing we mentioned earlier?). These gentle mancats are about 7 years old, neutered, microchipped, current on their vaccinations and negative for FIV and FeLV. They are both sweet, snuggly and playful. They love people, and get along well with other nice cats. Mac and Louie have everything, except for a forever home. All they need is a chance. Is it with you? 😺
