Happy Halloween (and Thank You)!

In the spirit and colors of Halloween, we proudly present (most of) the black, orange and calico cats of PAWS.  Be sure to click on the picture to "biggify" it, so you can see all of these oh-so-adoptable beauties! :)

(Left to right: Bunny, Ian, Gracie, Zoe, Susie, Elmer, Mercy, Sophia, Chino, Jazmin, Dottie, Cameron, Jett and Sabre)

THANK YOU all who sent messages, purrs, prayers and good thoughts our way!  We at Animal Shelter Volunteer Life weathered Hurricane Sandy pretty well.  And we're happy to say that PAWS and all the animals there are safe and sound, too.

To those still dealing with the effects of Sandy, please know that we are thinking of you.

Happy MEOW-loween, everybody!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

This little guy is Bobble.  His description card at PAWS says "on hold," which means he's pretty close to being adopted. :)

Until that happens, Bobble is getting lots of love from the volunteers and staff (and having lots of fun while he's at it). :)

FURever Home Weekend, and an Award! :)

As most of you know, we usually post our adoption updates on Fridays.  And we had planned one for this week.  The week, however, was extra crazy, and I (meowmeowmans) was feeling under the weather on Thursday and Friday.  But we do have some very exciting adoption news to share with you all.  And we just can't bring ourselves to wait until next week.  So we'll bend the rules a little, and dub this FURever Home Weekend. :)

Do you remember sweet, gorgeous and floofy Minnie?  She's been adopted!  So has beautiful Mora!

So have Belle, Daisy and Oliver (together), Dior and Hermes (together), Ferragamo and Vuitton (together), Sierra, Tink and Vea.  We love you all, sweet kittehs.  Congratulations to you and your new families!

We also won an award!  Thank you to our sweet friends Miro, Alanis and Sherry at Animalia and Sherlock, Traveler and Ash at Feline Purr-spective for giving us the "One Sweet Blog" award.  Thank you, friends, we appreciate you! :)

Okay, if you're not already smiling, here are some happy tales of some kittehs adopted from PAWS. Don't you just love happily ever afters?

Lola
I just wanted to follow up with you and let you know that Miss Lola is very happy living with me after a year and a half. I recently moved to a smaller apartment that has a full wall of desk space with built-in bookcases and cubby-holes up above. It didn't take Lola long to find her own cubby (see picture).

Needless to say, I have left that empty and that is now Lola's little spot. She is often in there and when I can't locate her I can usually find her there. I want to thank PAWS for giving me such a loving companion. Her purr was one of the things that attracted me to her, and she continues to purr loudly to this day. And, like most cats, she rules my household! - Ann H.

Skyler
Hi, this is Skyler, I was adopted about a month ago, by Justin and his Mom from Milford! It took a couple of days, but I'm happy, and healthy and love playing with my new family! I like to cuddle with Justin while he plays video games, and I sleep with his Mom at night. I like looking out the window and playing with my toys!

Have a great weekend, everybody! :)

National Feral Cat Day 2012

Hi everybuddy! It’s me, Sammy! Did you know today is National Feral Cat Day? Since I used to live in a feral cat colony (before I came to PAWS, where the mom and the dad gotcha'd me from), it’s sort of a tradition for me here at Animal Shelter Volunteer Life to write our National Feral Cat Day post.

National Feral Cat Day was started in 2001 by Alley Cat Allies -- the national group that helps feral and stray cats. The people at Alley Cat Allies are also experts about Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), where kittehs who live outdoors are humanely trapped and checked out medically, spayed or neutered and given their shots.  Cats who are friendly (like me!) are put up for adoption.

Cats who are truly feral are released back into the areas from which they came, or into managed feral cat colonies, and nice humans feed them every day and take care of any who are sick or get hurt. And because they are spayed and neutered, the cats don't have to deal with stresses like mating and pregnancy, and no new kittens are born.

If you'd like to learn more about National Feral Cat Day, Alley Cat Allies, and/or how you can help feral cats, please click HERE.

Purrs and hugs!

Sammy

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Miles

When Miles first came to PAWS, he had some health issues that needed tending. Now he's healthy, happy, and ready to be adopted.

Miles' tongue sticks out when he's happy!

He's also a BIG-TIME lap cat. :)

Mancat Monday - Boop!

Boop is handsome, playful and lovable.  We always look forward to spending time with him when we volunteer!  "Boopie" loves to play (especially with the Kragonfly), and also likes chilling out with us on the couch.  He's looking for a forever home where he is the only pet.  How about it?  Are YOU looking for YOUR one and only? :)

To see more pictures of this dashing dude, check out our fellow PAWS volunteer pal Maggie's awesome blog (Sundays at the Shelter)!

PAWS in the Park! :)

Hi, my name is Boop, and I'm one of the cats available for adoption at PAWS. I want to tell you about something EXCITING and FUN scheduled for this weekend!

Boop
Tomorrow (Saturday, October 6th) is the 5th Annual PAWS in the Park event. Isn't that exciting? And THIS year's festival will ALSO be a celebration of PAWS' 50th ANNIVERSARY! If you're in the Norwalk, CT area between 11AM and 3PM, stop by Taylor Farm Park to join in the fun. Among the activities will be a CATastic Tent (featuring some of the awesomely adoptable PAWS kitties!); a Dog Agility Fun Trail; a Pet Food Sampling Cafe; Low Cost Microchipping; Dog Makeovers; a Cat Clicker Training workshop; great raffle prizes, and more!

Lucy and Ethel
Be sure to look for Lucy and Ethel, two of the pawsome woofies who are waiting at PAWS for their forever homes. That's them in the picture above, looking sleepy and cute. :)

LiveStrong 2012

Today is LiveStrong Day. Our lives - like so many others - have been touched by cancer, most recently when our dear Auntie Kathy lost her battle on September 2, 2012.  All of us here at Animal Shelter Volunteer Life join in love and support of all who have come face-to-face with this terrible disease. We remember family and friends who have lost their respective fights, and rally behind those who are still fighting.

A collage of Auntie Kathy through the years, created by her brother Eugene (our uncle)

Lloydie the Cat, who was loved by PAWS staff and volunteers

We know there are so many other friends we haven't mentioned here.  Even if your name isn't mentioned in this post, you are still in our thoughts, prayers and purrs.  For all of you, and for everyone still engaged in the battle against cancer, we wish for strength, hope for miracles, and pledge to Live Strong.
