Lizzie's Sunday Selfie

Our sweet friend Lizzie is still getting used to things at the shelter, but when we asked for volunteers for this week's Sunday selfie, look who raised her paw! Isn't she beautiful? 😸

Sadly, this lovable, bright-eyed senior finds herself at PAWS after her human had to go into a nursing home. During her short time here, Lizzie has rarely ventured out of her cage during "out time," instead preferring to stay within the security of its walls. But today, she showed us that things are going to be just fine. While we were spending time with her, this ladycat jumped out of her open cage, walked over to where I was sitting on the floor, rubbed against my knee, and laid down for an extended session of pets, scritches and purring. Happiness all around! 💖

Lizzie is about 14 years old, which means she qualifies for the PAWS Senior Pension Plan. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt her will get an amazing kitty with no adoption fee, and a free annual wellness exam, vaccinations and blood work analysis for the rest of her life. She's spayed, micro-chipped, current on her vaccinations, negative for FIV and FeLV and ready to find her happily ever after. Lizzie gets along well with other nice cats, but would be just as happy as your one and only. Looking for love? You've found it, and her name is Lizzie!

We’re taking part in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by our pawsome buddies at The Cat on My Head. Be sure to visit their blog to see who else is hopping, and/or to join in on the fun!

Bless her what a great selfie. I do hope that folks will look past that age thing and see what a little gem she is, and open their heart...

It is so sad that Lizzie had to be given up because her owner went into a nursing home. I imagine her owner would have been very sad too. I hope that sweet older girl gets a loving home for her golden years.

Aww, I sure hope she's as lucky a senior as I was when mom and dad snatched me up from Orange County Animal Services. I'm so grateful they couldn't help themselves when they saw me in my glass room. Hope Lizzie finds her furrever home real soon.

Oh, what a beauty Lizzie is! It warms my heart that she is not only somewhere safe while waiting for her new forever home, but that she is now feeling comfortable and letting herself enjoy some love. Purrs and prayers to Lizzie and all the kitties!

She's so cute. I wish nursing homes would allow people to bring their pets along. It's got to improve the morale and health of pet and person!
I'm sure you met 8 year old ultra sweet Max in the Meeting Room who was brought to PAWS for the same reason.

It's a shame that Lizzie was not allowed to come into the nursing home ! I think at least for cats it should be allowed especially when they are also old ! We have retirement homes here were even dogs are allowed. It's so cruel to separate human and animal when they lived such a long time together !

It's so sad when people have to give up their beloved pets when they go into a nursing home. I'm so glad everyone at PAWS is there for Lizzie, and I hope she's adopted very soon. Will her human in the nursing home be told when she goes to a nice new home?

Back when I pet sat professionally, I remember this one lady in a retirement community. She ended up in the hospital and then assisted living and I took care of her cats in the meantime. I haven't thought of her in years. It breaks my heart to have to separate pets from their people. It seems to me that much of the comfort older adults experience is due to animals.
