This gentle and reserved girl is pretty unique, according to the rules of cat genetics. Did you know that only 20 percent of orange tabby cats are female? And since long hair in cats is a recessive genetic trait, the fact that Pumpkin is a longhaired orange female tabby cat makes her even more special.
Pumpkin: Whew. All this talk about genetics and percentages is making me kind of tired. What do you say we just wish everybody a peaceful, easy Sunday?
Sounds good, Pumpkin. Have a peaceful, easy Sunday, everybody. :)

She's beautiful! I'm a sucker for orange cats, and have always heard that orange females are unusual (both of our orange cats are male), but I didn't know how rare until I read this post. Thanks for the orange info! Our foster girl, Pansy, was the first orange female I ever met.
