Black Cat Appreciation Day 2012

Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day!

Did you know black cats are only half as likely to get adopted as cats of other colors? And that, on average, they stay several months longer in shelters than any other cats? Isn't that CRAZY? Well, we certainly think so.  There are a bunch of beautiful, amazing and adoptable black cats at PAWS.  Here are just a few of them:

Come and meet these "house panthers" today! You might just find your new best friend. :)

Be sure to visit Sparkle the Designer Cat's blog.  She is raising funds to help PAWS cats AND featuring PAWS cats every Thursday in August.  We love you, Sparkle! :)

  1. I've never understood the whole black cat stigma. I've ALWAYS loved black cats. So sleek, so cool, always in style... And of course totally lovable. One of my favorite kitties was Nicki. He was my BFF. Totally black, not a white hair anywhere. xo

  3. Mum was owned once by an all black cat who was called Max. if Mum was in the street and she patted a dog he used to chase the dog away and spit at it! He had a girlfriend cat called Snoopy across from us and they used to go through her back garden and into the village cemetery paw in paw and spend hours there!

  12. What a lovely group of cats. In our part of the world, black cats are considered to be lucky by most. We certainly think that they are :)

  15. When you see these sweet faces, color never matters... I don't know why black kitties have more difficulty finding their home. I hope these sweet babies will find forever home soon!

  16. They are all lovely. Mum says Elmer is the spitting image of one of the cats who came before us. He was called Mr Pig because he was always stuffing his face when he was young.

  17. As the "mommy-daddy" of two lovely black kitties from the same litter, it breaks my heart to hear how hard it is for black cats to be adopted, and extra grateful that I did so... because I have to admit, I had never thought I would have black cats.

  21. I never knew (until recently) how bad black cats had it... and now that I do, it breaks my heart... I really think that when it is time for us to open our hearts to another, a black cat may be the perfect solution....

  22. It really is crazy! Black cats are sleek, sexy, beautiful, and wonderful... just like any other cat, they are awesome and deserve a loving home!! Time for all this superstitious nonsense to stop!

  23. Mommy's totally, completely & madly in LOVE wif a beautiful purebred Bombay at Wayside who's completely black (she sez Juno is a female Faraday!!).

But Juno is an "only cat". *sigh*

She may just have to furlough her for a bit if she's still there when Mommy gets back from her week of working in Arizona...!

Pee Ess...Jet looks like he has oriental in him with that elegant long nose! And Derek sure looks Persian to us.

(of course Allie squeeee-d at her namesake MOL!)

  24. We think all cats are beautiful and we love that each individual cat has their own singular personality no matter their colouring! Blacks cats are especially beautiful to us though because of Malou, and all those other breathtaking house panthers we have known/know! We know there are others who see how beautiful this gang is and we hope they each find homes ASAP!!

  25. When I was a kid, my younger brother brought home a stray black kitten, saying, "We have to keep her; she's one in a million!" Of course we kept her.

  26. 4 of the 6 of us are solid black. The only drawback to having a house full of House Panthers is that we're hard to see in the dark. The people turn on nightlights when they go to sleep, so if they have to get up for some reason they won't trip on us. We hope all those gorgeous PAWS kitties get loving homes furry fast!

  27. Yes, we know that and it makes us sad. They are just as sweet as any other can...color does not make the cat. Every black cat that has ever been a part of our family was wonderful. We hope more people will begin giving them loving forever homes. Hugs and nose kisses

  28. Well, duh! YEAH Black Cats are the Best. Not that I'm biased or ennyfing ;-)

  29. These kitties are beautiful and have more than their share of charm. We don't understand the black cat stigma, either.

They all deserve a good home and cat-loving smoochies from us :)

  30. Elmer is just precious! What a sweet face. We are shocked people still think like its the 1300's when it comes to black cats. What if people thought about people with black hair like that? Think of all the squawking there would rightfully be!

  31. I am in love with each of them. KISSES to them and please, find homes sweet ones. xoxoxoxox
