Sweet and Snuggly Sophia

Sophia is SO sweet. This gentle senior (12+) ladycat was a bit overwhelmed by the many unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells of the shelter when she first arrived at PAWS. While she did enjoy being pet, Sophia seemed to prefer the comfort of her cage -- even when it was her turn for "out" time. About three weeks ago, I decided to try to hold her in my arms, and was delighted to discover that Sophia LOVES being held. She purrs up a storm, drapes her paws over my shoulder, and burrows her head between my neck and shoulder.

With Sophia's secret affinity now revealed -- and with a number of volunteers spending regular time with her -- we are seeing her beautiful personality emerge. She recognizes her favorite volunteers, comes to the front of the cage to be let out, and enjoys being out and about. We've also discovered this lovebug is pretty happy in a nice warm lap if a shoulder isn't available. :)

Sophia is spayed, and up to date on all her vaccinations. She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She does have hyperthyroidism, but is regulated and quite good about taking her medication (especially when it is wrapped in a salmon treat). :) Sophia would do well in a quieter home with someone who is willing to give -- and get -- lots of loving snuggles. She would also do best as an only pet. Won't you please consider giving this sweet gal the forever home she deserves?

  1. It always saddens us when a senior ends up in these circumstances. At this point in her live Sophia deserves a warm lap and regular cuddles...we send White Dog positive energy that someone special will come in and believe the same thing and take this precious girl home.

  2. She is so beautiful and sweet! I'm sure a perfect lap cat too :) I rarely see ginger females here... noticed that most gingers I meet are male.

  14. That is a sweet face. It's always sad when a sweet cat has to be an only pet, as so many cat lovers already have some.
Can't seem to comment on Blogger today with my WordPress credential, don't know why. I'm using Name/URL today.

  16. FIV and FeLV are dangerous diseases right? they aren't curable, right? I think I heard that from Luke Gamble.

She already has a favorite volunteer. That's fantastic. It means she DOES trust people.

I hope she finds a wonderful home.

  30. She would be the perfect cat for an elderly lady ! Some women I know would be prepared to take an "old" cat rather than a kitten because cats can live 20 years easily and then the owner would die before, and they don't want to leave a loved pet behind.
I hope you can find such a lady !!

  35. Sophia sounds like a wonderful companion, it just took the right combination to bring out her personality. Who wouldn't enjoy being with a cat who enjoys laps and shoulders.

Cats can be so particular like that, even having favorite caretakers - to me, that is part of their charm.
