It's National Feral Cat Day! Now in its 11th year, National Feral Cat Day was launched in 2001 by Alley Cat Allies, the national advocate for feral and stray cats and a recognized authority on Trap-Neuter-Return (T-N-R) — the program wherein cats who live outdoors are humanely trapped and brought to a veterinarian to be evaluated, spayed or neutered and vaccinated.
Friendly cats and kittens are put up for adoption. Feral cats that have undergone the procedure are released back into the areas from which they came, with volunteer caregivers providing a managed food source and monitoring the colony to aid sick or injured cats. And because they are spayed and neutered, the feral cats don't have to deal with stuff like mating and pregnancy, and no new kittens are born.

You wrote a great post for National Feral Cats Day.
ReplyDeleteI am doing a commenthon for one of my local feral and stray groups for National Feral Cat Day!
ReplyDeleteAn excellent post and an excellent cause.
ReplyDeleteWe think this is an important cause! I was semi feral! Being free and very scared of all humans. I am still fearful of humans... except my mom and the human grandma! That was most likely why I was left behind when my former mom, (the neighbor) moved. It took mom several days to catch me!
ReplyDeleteYay and paws up for all those involved in the good work of helping ferals and strays!
ReplyDeletePaws up for your National Feral Cat Day.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Happy National Feral Cat Day!
ReplyDeleteTNR is such a great program.....
ReplyDeletePaws Up for National Feral Day - our local cat sanctuary runs a TNR programme... so simple and yet so effective! =^..^=
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for caring volunteers that participate in TNR!!!

The adorable ferals deserve every bit of help we all can provide for them!
ReplyDeleteWe are all formerly feral here at The Lounge. Humans need to get us spayed and neutered!
ReplyDeleteThanks for writing this post. We need to get the word out to as many people that we can, that ferals are not horrible cats. They can be very very nice. At least all of mine are nice. Have a great week end.
ReplyDeleteSome of our cats were ferals, all have been rescues. It breaks the mom's heart to think of all the suffering homelessness causes. Once they had a home, none of our ferals have ever looked to go outside again.
ReplyDeleteI can't see your pictures yet (soon, I hope) but I am so happy you are coming over. It's been an AWFUL couple of dayopefully things will get fixed soon!
ReplyDeleteXOXO, Spitty
Um, make that:
ReplyDelete...days, but hopefully...
Awesome!! Love you guys!! Happy National Feral Kitty Day! I'll tell my ferals that today is their special day :) Maybe give them a tasty treat with their kibble.
ReplyDeleteHooray for National Feral Cat Day! We should all have one of those.
ReplyDeleteThank you for helping raise awareness about ferals (mom forget which is norty). xx
ReplyDeleteMe too lift´s my paws up for National Feral Cat Day !
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great program.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, I saw a large feral cat colony in the industrial sections of SF on Saturday while I was wandering around to art studios. They were in a vacant lot near a studio building, but seemed well cared for, with food and water provided.
I got to know the T-N-R program through blogging and am more aware of it. Every kitty deserves a good life and I admire these caring people. Thank you for raising the awareness.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful program with a proven record of success! Thanks for sharing the word...if only the programs were better funded...
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I started out outside but now have my furever home and never ever want to go back out there again.
ReplyDeleteThat's the best I have heard of and I think all countries should do that. In Belgium there is T N R service but maybe not enough.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a wonderful program. Going to click on the link now to learn more. Thanks!

Thanks for your post in honor of the feral cats. We've dealt with quite a few over the years but the colony is not much of a colony anymore...two of the original cats remain, and other kitties visit for food every day.
